Secret Tournament – Nike

About the Ad Campaign

An advertising campaign to remember, where football started to make more noise on our screens rather than just through a 90 minute match.

The campaign is said to have an estimated budget of $100 million with 24 quality players at the time. Eric Cantona was the man to facilitate the games and the Film Director was Terry Gilliam.

The advertising campaign was in a lead up to the 2002 Fifa World Cup and developed as the tournament came closer, early ads allowed users to view a website where they could get more information on the tournament  and get involved with some interactive games.

Nike president Mark Parker also mentioned that this football marketing initiative was the most comprehensive and successful global campaign ever executed by Nike.

8 Teams of 3 top players in a first goal wins elimination match, watch to see who wins.
