The 2016 UEFA European Championship will be starting soon (10 June - 10 July 2016) where for the first time since '96 we get to see 24 nations of Europe battle it out for the trophy.
It is due to be held in France so we at LLF have decided to have a look at the France provisional squad and their chances within the competition on home soil.
Above you will have seen the players who have been called up respectively with notable players missing out for one reason or the other such as Benzema, Ben Arfa, Lacazette and Schneiderlin. With that being said the French Squad still looks very strong and are one of the favourites to go far in the competition. Many of their players have had great seasons for their clubs and hopefully they can emulate this form for the national Squad.
2016 League title winners: Pogba, Evra (Juventus), Mathieu (Barcelona), Matuidi (PSG), Kante (Leicester City), Coman (Bayern Munich),
2016 Cup Finalists: Pogba, Evra (Juventus), Matuidi (PSG), Coman (Bayern Munich) Griezmann (Atletico Madrid), Varane (Real Madrid), Cabaye (Crystal Palace), Mandanda (Marseille), Martial (Manchester Utd), Gignac (UANL Tigres).
Some players have had great individual seasons such as Payet who has been sublime for West Ham winning London Player of the Year award, some players are your regular french players such as Sissoko and Giroud, who add some structure and something a little different to the talented side.
We're predicting France to make it to the semi-finals at least, best of luck to them!
If we had to choose a France Starting XI it would be a little something like this:
GK: Lloris | DF: Sagna, Varane, Koscielny, Evra | MF: Kante, Pogba, Matuidi | FW: Griezmann, Payet, Martial.
Being from the UK and all, it was only right for us to share our opinion on England's provisional squad for the Euros.
If you've been following England for the past couple of years, you will notice one common thing, the players generally do not live up to expectations placed on them when it comes to tournaments. Now who's to say these crop of players can't make a change, the expectations which usually come with playing for England is not as much as it once was. This fresh crop have surprisingly been great so far, we're at a stage where the national team really have nothing to lose but everything to gain.
Some notable missing players: Defoe who had an amazing season with Sunderland helping them stay up in the PL, Noble who has had an efficient season with West Ham, Carrick (Man Utd) who has a vast amount of experience and Theo Walcott (Arsenal) who just didn't show up in games for most of the season.
2016 League Title Winners: Vardy, Drinkwater (Leciester City)
2016 Cup Finalists: Clyne, Lallana, Milner, Sturridge & Henderson (Liverpool), Smalling, Rooney, Rashford (Manchester Utd)
As this is the provisional squad, we believe that the three who will not be making the cut will be Delph (Manchester City), Drinkwater (Leicester) & Rashford (Manchester Utd).
Our predictions for England are to reach the Quarter Finals at least, best of luck to them!
If we had to choose an England Starting XI it would be a little something like this:
GK: Hart | DF: Clyne, Cahill, Smalling, Rose | MF: Wilshere, Dier, Alli |FW: Rooney, Kane, Vardy
